Abandoned in UK, boy home after 2 years

A 13-year-old boy abandoned by his mother in London two years ago was reunited with his family on Monday. A court in Dasuya, 150 km from Chandigarh, asked his father’s elder brother, Kuldip Singh, to take interim custody of Gurinderjit. Kuldip Singh had undergone a DNA test to confirm that they were related.

Gurinderjit’s relatives fought for his custody. He, however, preferred to stay with his paternal uncle.

When Judicial Magistrate Rakesh Kumar asked the boy whom he wanted to live with, he said: “All are nice but I want to live with my tauji (father’s elder brother),” he said.

His sister tried to talk him round but he stuck to his decision. “I’ll keep in touch with you,” he told her.
