Set amidst picturesque surroundings on the foothills of the Eastern Ghats, the newly constructed cricket stadium on the outskirts of the steel city looks like a photographer's paradise.
Finished at a cost of Rs 12.5 crore and ringed by hills, the stadium has all the facilities to host international ties.
Excellent dressing rooms for the participating teams, complete with a modern gymnasium including the latest equipment imported from the USA, and well-positioned media boxes are some of the features.
The stadium, with a maximum capacity of 30,000, also has two separate ramps leading to the galleries so that even a full house can be cleared in only seven to eight minutes.
Situated about 13 kilometers from the city centre at Pothanamallayapalam, the stadium — a joint venture of the ACA and VDCA is right now known as ACA-VDCA stadium till an appropriate name is found.
The lush green ground looks soothing to the eye, while the hard track, though bereft of grass, seems full of bounce. But like a true Indian track, the pitch is likely to favour the batsmen.
The wicket has also drawn lavish praise from the touring New Zealand coach, Ashley Ross.
