The members of a cabbie gang on Saturday kidnapped a 25-year-old salesman who had got into their car from MG Road. The abductors demanded a ransom of R5 lakh from his family.

However, the youth managed to give the slip to the abductors on Sunday when their Hyundai i10 car met with an accident near Palwal, the police said. The kidnappers later fled from the spot in their car.
Deepak Valmiki, a resident of NIT Faridabad, works as a salesman at Pergo India Ltd in The Plaza Mall. Around 8pm, he took a lift in a car to reach home. After a few minutes, four men already sitting in the car assaulted him and snatched his wallet.
According to the police, the criminals found only R20 in the wallet and then they asked for the contact details of victim’s family.
They called Deepak’s relatives and demanded R5 lakh. The victim’s family informed the police immediately. A case was registered at Sector 29 police station.
The abductors took Deepak towards Aligarh and kept him in the car the whole night with his hands tied up and eyes covered.
While coming back to Faridabad, the car hit a pedestrian near Palwal. Residents from nearby villages surrounded the car.
Taking advantage of the situation, Deepak ran away from there, the police said. The police, who were looking for the car, managed to save the victim.
DCP (crime) Maheshwar Dayal said, “The plan was only to rob Deepak but when they got only R20 from him, they decided to kidnap him for ransom. We will soon be able to arrest the kidnappers.”
