Adnan case: Hunt on for 5th accused
Four people have been arrested for Adnan Patrawala's murder and police are on the lookout for the fifth, reports Megha Sood.india Updated: Aug 24, 2007 01:49 IST
ADNAN PATRAWALA, the slain 16-year-old, was found in the marshes with only his undergarments on.
The police have yet to locate his clothes, cell phone, watch, wallet and shoes that the five accused removed before dumping him to make his identification difficult.
“The belongings are with the accused and will be seized soon,” said Kiran Sonone, senior police inspector, Oshiwara police station. Patrawala, who was kidnapped on Saturday, was found dead in Navi Mumbai late on Monday.
Four people, including three of his friends, have been arrested and the Oshiwara police are on the lookout for the fifth, identified only as Lala.
Rajiv Dharaiya alias Raj, who was arrested on Wednesday, was remanded in police custody till August 28 on Thursday. The 24-year-old embroiderer has been charged with conspiring Patrawala’s kidnapping and was present when Patrawala was murdered, the police said.
A Class IX dropout, Raj met Patrawala and the other accused at a Malad pool parlour. He lives near Orlem in Malad with his father and two siblings.
“Raj belongs to a lower middle-class family and cannot afford a lawyer. He too became a part of the plan to kidnap Adnan for money,” said Sonone.
Khimesh Ambawat, one of the three friends arrested, will be produced in the Dongri Juvenile Court on Monday.
The police plan to press additional charges against the 17-year-old because the minor has a driving licence with his age mentioned as 18.
The two others — Sujit Nair and Ayush Bhatt — have been remanded in custody till August 28.
