Accusing the Congress of turning a blind eye to the Left-ruled West Bengal to retain power in Delhi, former BJP President Lal Krishna Advani on Saturday urged the Election Commission to take all necessary steps to ensure that voters in the state were able to cast their ballots in a free and fair manner.

Advani added that the Congress and CPI-M leadership in Delhi would try to wreck the concept of mahajot, or the grand alliance of the Trinamool Congress, the Congress and the BJP, by raising the bogey of communalism.

"Congress is giving them protection because the Communists, in turn, are providing life-support to the UPA Government which has become increasingly mired in its own corruption and criminality," he said.

"The Congress leadership in Delhi and the Communists in Bengal form the mutual protection society of the corrupt and criminal forces in Indian politics," he alleged.

Advani said that the nation was keenly watching how the 'misdeeds and cover-ups of the Congress would unravel in the coming months and eventually drown their Government'.
