Agra: Fire due to short-circuit kills 6; injures 2

Six people were burnt alive on Saturday night in a fire caused due to short-circuit during a storm in Basai Gurjar village under Mansukhpura police station in Agra. Those killed included two women and three children who were charred to death in their house.

Six people were burnt alive on Saturday night in a fire caused due to short-circuit during a storm in Basai Gurjar village under Mansukhpura police station in Agra. Those killed included two women and three children who were charred to death in their house.

Senior officials reached the spot and got two of the injured shifted to SN Hospital in Agra for treatment where they were reported to be in a stable but serious condition.

The incident took place around 11pm on Saturday night when a storm hit this rural belt of Agra about 60 kilometers from the city.

"The fire was caused due to short circuit in a house in Basai Gurjar. Due to windy weather conditions, the fire spread to another house which was charred down claiming six lives," said SSP Agra, Shalabh Mathur, after visiting the spot.

"Two are injured and admitted to a hospital in Agra for treatment," Mathur added.

The fire spread to other houses as well, but was controlled around midnight after fire brigade reached the remote village.
