Talking to reporters in Puducherry on Monday, A Anbalagan, MLA, said that Pushparaj, a section superintendent in the department, had committed suicide after an inquiry by CBI recently.

There were complaints of irregularity in the purchase of helmets to the department last year. Some police officials were transferred soon after complaints surfaced.

The department on the purchase also ordered a CBI probe.

Anbalagan also criticised the government for supplying "sub standard" rice rain affected persons in Puducherry and Karaikal.
