"We will not sacrifice Tamil nadu's rights at at any point or any stage. We will stand united; work hard (and) not sacrifice Tamil Nadu's rights at any point or any stage," she said in her new year greetings to the people.

Her remarks comes against the backdrop of the resurfacing of the controversy over Kerala's move for building a new dam across Mullaperiyar which Tamil Nadu is opposing tooth and nail.

Jayalalithaa, whose AIADMK stormed to power in the April 2011 elections with a landslide victory over archrival DMK, said her government was working with the aim of making Tamil Nadu a pioneer in all the sectors in a gloden era.

The government "under your sister is effectively doing this," she said.
