The decision has been taken to cut down on expenses and is also based on the fact that AI has decided to make Delhi, from where it operates maximum number of flights, its main hub.

Before the 2007 merger of Indian Airlines (IA) and AI, IA had its headquarters in Delhi while AI’s headquarters was in Mumbai.

When the two companies were merger, it was decided to have the headquarters of the airline in Mumbai.

So, while AI had its registered office in Delhi, its headquarters was located at Mumbai’s Nariman Point.
