Alert railway staff averts train mishap in Madurai

Timely detection of missing fishplates on a railway track averted a train accident near the Bodi railway station in Theni District of Tamil Nadu.

Timely detection of missing fishplates on a railway track averted a train accident near the Bodi railway station in Theni District of Tamil Nadu.

Police said a railway employee, Varadarajan, who was checking the rails, found a pair of fishplates lying away from the rails at Anaikarapatti village five km from Bodi Railway station on Friday.

He later stopped the Madurai-Bodi passenger train, which was to pass through the spot around that time, and informed the authorities. A techinical team immediately rushed to the spot and rectified the problem.

Railway sniffer dog Austin, which was brought to the spot, went up to the Anaikarapatti bus stop and lost the trail, police said.
