IF YOU thought the way you dress for your workplace and for partying is not being noticed, think again. Hindustan Times has instituted an annual award for well-dressed persons of Indore in different categories.
Persons belonging to fields as diverse as bureaucracy, sports, professionals, entrepreneurship, art and culture would be vying for the top honours at the HT Awards Presentation on March 11 at Sayaji Hotel at 7.30 pm. At the moment, the excitement in Indore is palpable and the City is abuzz with whispers as to who would ultimately walk away with the award for immaculate dressing.
While three persons have been nominated in each category, the actual award would go to only one. This would be decided on the same day by a jury of five distinguished citizens. The jury includes Sajid Dhanani (MD Sayaji Hotel), Shekhar Bhargava (senior advocate), Tony Sachdeva (Yashwant Club president), Rahul Jain (MD Percept Swift Advertising Pvt Ltd) and Rachna Rishi (Director Graffiti Institute of Fashion Technology).
While for the professionals and entrepreneurs category, the list of nominations was long and for the sports and arts and culture category the judges had a ‘ tough’ task in selecting the nominees.
The HT Lifetime Achievement Awards, to be given away the same evening, were announced yesterday. Those on whom the HT Lifetime Achievement Awards would be conferred are distinguished educationist Maitreyi Padmanabhan, industrialist Kailash Sahara, music maestro Gokulotsav Maharaj, eye specialist Dr Pratap Singh Hardia and veteran cricketer Sanjay Jagdale. Two awards would be given posthumously to Pt Kumar Gandharva and Captain Mushtaq Ali.
The HT Lifetime Achievement Awards and the Best Dressed Awards, is the first of its kind of presentation made by an organisation in the City.
Those nominated for best-dressed award in the male bureaucrat category are Adarsh Katiyar (SP), Pramod Phalnikar (DIG) and Ajit Kumar (Chief Commissioner, Income Tax). The female bureaucrats who have been nominated are Kirti Khurasia (SDM, Indore), Vandana Sagar (Additional Commissioner, Income Tax) and Smita Ghate (MD, Finance Corporation).
In the sports category, Santosh Mishra (table tennis), Kulvinder Singh Gill (basketball) and Atul Prabhakar (cricket) have been nominated in the male category. Ashwini Puranik and Rekha Golvalkar (badminton) have been nominated as the best-dressed female sportspersons.
Among the male professionals, Satish Bagadia (advocate), Dr Upinder Dhar (Director, Prestige Institute) and Aneil Mahajan (from Bhaskar group) have been nominated for the Best Dressed Awards. Dr Shaila Tyagi (gynecologist), Abha Anand (Professional Tutorials) and Dr Divya Gupta have been nominated amongst females.
Those nominated among the male entrepreneurs are Surendra Singh Garha (MD, Gajra Bevel Group), O P Goyal (Krishna Oil Extraction Ltd) and Anand Kedia (Chairman, Associated Kedia Group). Female entrepreneurs nominated are Akanksha Rathi (Rathi Iron and Steel Industries), Manisha Kalani (Pizza Hut) and Manju Hasija (Fabindia).
In the art and culture category, Hitendra Dikshit (tabla) and Baljinder Singh (flute) have been nominated in the male slot. In the female slot, Shibani Maloo (Fashion, Angraag), Anupama Jaiswal (Fashion, Indian Women) and Navina Ganju (fine arts) have been nominated.
THE NAME of Mr Shrenik Jain was inadvertently mentioned as one of the winners of the HT Lifetime Achievement Award in the list published on Page 1 of HT Indore Live issue dated March 9, 2006. The error is regretted.
