The drill took off when Air Traffic Control (ATC) informed the Airport Authority officials that a plane had been hijacked. Information was then sent through the emergency plan envisaged to deal with such situations.

Subsequently, CISF personnel took control of the entire premises and the runaway. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and one of them was placed at the runway to stop the plane from taking off.

A meeting of airport officials and district administration was held where the plan regarding talks with hijackers and action was finalised. Police force was sent from the City and deployed on the route to the airport. The last option of a mock commando action was also staged.

The drill is occasionally held to check the alertness of airport staff and identify their shortcomings in preparedness to deal with emergency situations.
