Aparna Popat, Bindra shortlisted for Teacher's award

Apart from them Samaresh and Anuja Jung, Baichung Bhutia, Ritwik Bhattacharya and Shiv Kapur are also nominated for the Teacher's Achievement Award for Sports.

Eight-time national badminton champion Aparna Popat, ace shooters Abhinav Bindra, Samaresh Jung and Anuja Jung, football star Baichung Bhutia, No 1 squash player in the country Ritwik Bhattacharya and Asian Games gold medallist golfer Shiv Kapur have made it to the final nominations of the Teacher's Achievement Award for Sports.

A jury comprising former Indian cricket captain K Srikkanth, football stalwart P K Banerjee, eminent hockey player of yesteryears Zafar Iqbal, former world billiards champion Michael Ferriera, former ICC umpire and ex-cricketer S Venkataraghavan chose the nominees, a release said on Friday.

The awards are bestowed on persons renowned for their achievements in the fields of business, entertainment, sports and communication.

In sports, tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi, Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid, Olympic medal winning shooter Rajyavardhan Rathore, Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan and top woman shooter Anjali Bhagwat have bagged the award before.

The awards function will be held in Delhi on November 25.
