The miscreants tied up Dr Prabhat Shitholey and family members before fleeing the scene. Somehow the victims managed to untie themselves and informed the police after 1 am. Dr Shitholey is head of the department (HoD) with Psychiatry Department.

Around 8.45 pm the doorbell at Dr Shitholey’s 5, Rae Behari Lal Road residence rang. Doctor’s home clinic staff worker Rajesh opened the door and found five persons standing outside. Two of them enquired about the doctor and Rajesh asked them to come next morning as the doctor had gone to his room. The duo, however, requested Rajesh to call the doctor, as it was an emergency. Rajesh went inside and returned with the doctor. Meanwhile, three others, who were standing outside, too came inside. As Dr Shitholey asked about the patient, two of the youths suddenly whipped out country-made pistols and held the doctor at gunpoint.

They took Rajesh and the doctor to the first floor room and tied up Shitholey’s wife Ranjana, Rajesh and a servant Dwarika. The miscreants took the doctor to another room and asked him to open the drawers and almirahs. They collected the jewellery, two digital cameras, two cellphones, some cash and other valuables from the room.

They reportedly got three blank cheques signed by the doctor and took the passbook too. They pushed Shitholey into the same room and tied him along with others. The gang of criminals stayed in the house for about half-an-hour and walked away unscathed. It was around 12.30 in the night that Dwarika somehow managed to crawl closer to a table and get a scissors out. He untied himself and others later. Shitholey immediately called up a relative who informed the control room about the incident.

The cops reached the place around 2 am. The cops did not take services of fingerprint experts and the dog squad citing explanation that it was too late to call the field unit.
