Jaitley sought the Chair’s permission almost 25 minutes into his budget speech. The speaker agreed to his request.

He had, last year, also sat down while presenting the Budget in the Lok Sabha and then continued reading out the speech.

Jaitley had, in 2014, taken an unprecedented break during his budget speech due to back pain and had continued reading the document after a brief adjournment of the House.
