The victim has been identified as Devta Din, 35, of Rai Bareilley in Uttar Pradesh.

The truck, loaded with iron rods, was going to Gurgaon from Bhiwadi. When the truck did not reach Bhiwadi, its owner, Gurutej Singh, tried to contact Din on his mobile phone. But the phone was switched off. He, then, lodged a complaint at the Manesar police station.

When Singh reached Sector 10, he saw the truck near a market and the four accused were planning to sell the iron rods.

But before he could catch them, they fled with the truck. However, one of them was caught by the locals. Din’s body was recovered from the sewer at his instance. The post-mortem has been conducted.

“The accused, Rakesh, of Sonipat was caught by locals while his accomplices managed to flee. He told us that the victim was smothered to death when he tried to resist,” said inspector Naresh Kumar, SHO of Sector 10 police station.

Rakesh was produced before the duty magistrate. ASI Ghanshaym Singh of the Manesar police station, said, “The accused had planned to sell the truck along with the material.” Police are conducting raids to arrest the other three accused, who are at large.

Singh hails from Sirsa and runs a transport business.
