Assam NCP backs Pawar

The Assam unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is likely to side with Sharad Pawar. On Monday, members of the NCP burnt effigies of P.A. Sangma to protest his decision to join Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress without having any discussion with state unit.

A meeting of the state NCP executive body decided to side with Pawar. The Election Commission recently awarded the clock symbol to the Pawar faction, forcing Sangma to join Mamata’s Trinamool.
