When the body of a person called Taher Ali, who had been missing since Sunday evening and is suspected to have been killed, was found in the morning, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot.

The police and CRPF men tried to pacify the crowd but later resorted to firing, in which two persons were killed.

“The police initially resorted to lathicharge but later fired as the intensity of attacks increased. To de-escalate the situation, curfew has been clamped,” said SN Singh, inspector general.

In a parallel incident, a mob is reported to have burnt the biker alive but the police are yet to confirm it.
