Fortune will favour you if the astrologer steers the course of your stars and gets the divine powers to shine down on you, or so believe many politicians.
In , which goes to polls on Monday, it is no different. From the day when parties decide who gets the ticket to contest the elections, to the day when the results are declared, astrologers are in great demand.
On the advice of his astrologer, a BJP candidate from Bhopal city rushed to Orchha to get a glimpse of the presiding deity as his chances of getting the ticket were apparently slim. Now that he has got the ticket, he is visiting astrologers again to better his poll prospects.
A minister who is contesting the elections from the central part of the state got these tips from an astrologer: Since Shani (Saturn) in his horoscope occupies a weak position he should wear rings studded with certain gems. He should also visit Shani Shingnapur, near Shirdi, to please Shani Dev, and offer food to 11 Brahmins.
Another state minister wears a green-coloured gem. Recently, he took a dip in the Narmada and performed hawan.
One astrologer who believed that the horoscope of a certain Congress politician did not have “Raj Yog” (political power) told him to visit Bhairavnath temple in Ujjain, recite ‘Durga Chalisa’ (hymn in praise of Goddess Durga) and perform hawan for a month.
Pandit Pradeep Rath, an astrologer in Bhopal, said that even young politicians believed in such astrological practices. One astrologer said his predictions take into account newspaper reports too. Of course, they are raking in the moolah.
Some politicians have turned to “tantra-sadhana” and witchcraft, even Reiki, a Japanese spiritual practice believed to have healing powers.
