"So far as Gandhiji is concerned, I have already said I am not in favour of what has happened in England," he told reporters here.

"It is unfortunate. we do not want Gandhiji's items to be sold. They are precious," the Health Minister said.

"As a follower of Gandhiji, I do not want his spectacles and other things to be sold. This is my personal view. We come to know about this (auction) through newspapers only," Azad said.

A pinch of soil and blood-stained blades of grass from the place where Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in 1948 were sold for 10,000 pounds at an auction in London yesterday.

The auction saw many other Gandhi's memorabilia going under the hammer including his iconic round-rimmed glasses.
