Jaiveer Yadav, who was part of the farmers' delegation, said, “There was a verbal agreement between farmers and the government.”

“The authority promised to pay Rs 550 more per sqm. The authority also agreed to allot the farmers developed land plots measuring 8% of the total land acquired.

The officers also agreed to keep all abadi land, as it exists today, out of the acquisition process,” he said.

But at the time of sealing the deal, talks broke down. “The authority wanted to mention in the agreement a bonus of only Rs 200 per sqm, saying they would give the rest of the money off hand,” said the village head.
