The popuarity of commerce course among DU students has been attributed to management jobs.

Statistics with Delhi University's external cell reveal that Bcom (P) and BA programme are the most popular courses among Delhi students. Academicians attribute this trend to management jobs and also the fact that most students want to pursue a part time course or a job while securing an undergraduate degree.

The external cell offers two undergraduate courses — Bcom(P) and BA Programme. At the post graduate level students have a choice between Philosophy, Hindi and Sanskrit.

The cell gives students admissions and  conducts examinations for them. These students get a Delhi University degree although regular classes or study material is not provided to them. Students are charged Rs 845 for these courses and admissions are on in these courses till October 31.

Pro Vice Chancellor, SK Tandon said, “This year we have sold a lot of forms for both Bcom(P) and BA programme. The figures this year have exceeded last year's count of  39,000 forms.”

However, on the flip side, the external cell’s data reveals that postgraduate courses have been on a downswing, due to the entrance exam has been introduced for these courses.
