The ongoing dispute between the private colleges and the university authorities was cited to be the reason for their non-inclusion.

Earlier, the private colleges had decided to hold separate entrance examination for admitting students to the B Ed courses run by them. Consequently, the university did not hold counselling for these colleges.

Meanwhile, a section of the private colleges refused to accept the proposal to conduct separate entrance examination. Instead, they preferred that the university should conduct counselling for them. Since the managements of all the private colleges were not unanimous on the issue, the university did not concede to the demand of the dissenting faction.

As a result, students qualifying for the B Ed entrance examination were not allotted colleges even after the university seats were filled up.

FP shop dealers’ body to hold rally in New Delhi

MEMBERS OF the All-India Fair Price Shop Dealers Federation will hold a rally in support of their demands at Ramlila Ground in New Delhi on August 28.

Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, MP Sitaram Yechhuri and national general secretary of the Federation Vishambhar Basu will address the rally.

The fair price shop dealers are worried about the government’s proposal to end subsidies from the ration shop by March 2007.

A press communiqué issued by the national secretary of the federation Ramashankar Shukla stated it was necessary to improve the distribution system at the fair price shops. The federation was making efforts at all-India level for the last few months but the most states did not show concern over the problem raised by the federation, alleged Shukla.

The federation urged the Central Government that the sale of sugar should be made through the fair ration shops only all over the country along with other necessary consumer goods, too.

The Federation also said that the Antodya Yojna for those who were living below the poverty line was not a healthy project. Shukla exhorted the fair ration shop dealers to attend the proposed rally in large numbers to pressure the government.
