The defence counsel for LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Katiyar, Uma Bharti and others had submitted an application on April 15, challenging the competence of the CBI to prosecute the case. On Saturday, the defence sought permission for the absence of the other seven. ACJM (I) VK Singh fixed May 9 as the next date of hearing.

Asked how he felt appearing in court as an accused in the Babri case, Katiyar told media persons he had full faith in the judiciary.
