Bad weather suspends Amarnath yatra

The annual Amarnath pilgrimage was on Friday suspended because of bad weather along both the routes to the cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.

The annual Amarnath pilgrimage was on Friday suspended because of bad weather along both the routes to the cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district, police said.

"The yatra would be restored as soon as the weather improves in the area," a police officer said.

Over 35,000 people have already performed the pilgrimage that commenced on June 29.

The 13,500 feet high Himalayan cave houses a stalagmite is believed to represent the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.
