The official in the parliament office quoted Water Resources Minister Minister Hafizuddin Ahmed, who is temporarily in charge of defence, as telling the chamber that an agreement to buy the planes was signed last year.
The minister didn't give details of the type of planes that were being bought.
China enjoys close ties with Bangladesh and is its largest supplier of military hardware.
Bangladesh's air force has 65 fighter planes and 39 helicopters, mostly a mix of Soviet-era and Chinese aircraft.
