To recall, the United Forum of Bank Unions had opposed the issue and protested against privatisation of banks, hike in the ceiling of foreign investment as well as stopping the recruitment process, at a meeting held in Chennai in December.
Addressing the employees, UP Bank Employees’ Union general secretary Shivmurti Tiwari pointed out that appointments on compassionate grounds were being done in banks for the past many decades. He alleged that the government had intervened illegally on the issue and stopped the practice.
“As a result, compassionate appointments of candidates who have even appeared for interviews have been stopped by Allahabad Bank. When such appointments are being made by the Central Government and many of the public sector undertakings, why are bank employees victimised?” he asked.
