Portugal's encounter with England at the third Quarter Final of the FIFA 2006 World Cup might be dubbed by some as a clash between two great sea-faring nations, but if the Portuguese press is to go by, it's a cakewalk for Luis Figo and his boys.

The Portuguese press has branded England's soccer stars, a bunch of "scared girls."

In an article entitled "What the English are asking for", it described English soccer stars as "terrified," "consumptive girls" who had "little skill at football."

It described England team manager Sven Goran as "hated" and said that the English were jealous because they were unable to prise away Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who turned down the chance to be the next England manager.

"The English adore Scolari but they cannot stand Eriksson and hate him no end. They want Big Phil with the passion of a rancorous orphan who wants to change the stringy little mouse they adopted for a powerful roaring lion," The Sun quoted the article as saying.

Another Portuguese newspaper took the attack even further and ridiculed captain David Beckham's wife Victoria Beckham as empty-headed.
