The list, compiled by food celebrities like Anthony Bourdain, domestic doyenne Martha Stewart and actor Mike Myers, spans the world and is a tribute to regional specialties like the croque- monsieur -- the French version of a grilled cheese sandwich -- and lobster rolls from Massachusetts.

Chef and food personality Mario Batali’s contribution to the list is a sandwich filled with squid in its own ink and aioli from Madrid, while Stewart named a ham and cheese baguette from a New York bakery as her favorite.

And while the Wagyu sandwich rings in at a hefty $100 USD (€76), Bourdain’s pick of a fully loaded banh mi sandwich complete with a fried egg from a Vietnamese street stall, was a humble 50 cents.

Meanwhile, National Geographic’s Intelligent Travel also compiled a list of sandwiches around the world, which included a Japanese roll filled with yakisoba noodles and English butty stuffed silly with fries.
