Bhartia takes oath as RS member

Vice-chairperson of HT Media Limited and editorial director of the Hindustan Times Shobhana Bhartia on Monday took oath as a Rajya Sabha member.

Vice-chairperson of HT Media Limited and editorial director of the Hindustan Times Shobhana Bhartia on Monday took oath as a Rajya Sabha member.
She was nominated to the Upper House by President APJ Abdul Kalam last week.

Bhartia was congratulated by Rajya Sabha chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and other members of the House after she took the oath in English. Members greeted her by thumping the desks when she was called by Secretary-General Yogendra Narain to take oath.

Bhartia was accompanied by her father, noted industrialist and former MP Dr KK Birla, husband Shyam Bhartia and other family members. Lok Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and other friends watched her take oath from the visitors' gallery.
