IN A keenly fought final match of the Inter-SAI Central Region Hockey Tournament, Bhopal emerged victorious against Lucknow at the SAI Regional Centre, Bishenkheri today.
Excellent support from the coach and disciplined teamwork saw Bhopal trouncing traditional rivals Lucknow. In the first 21 minutes of the game, both teams played aggressively and breached the opponent’s defences quite often.
Hardwork paid up and Lucknow’s Karan scored a field goal in the 22nd minute. Bhopal team responded well but failed to convert opportunities into goals. The first half ended with the score reading 1-0 in favour of Lucknow.
Second half started with Bhopal attacking from the word go. Consecutive attacks, finally, helped breach the Lucknow defences and Abhishek scored in the 49th minute.
In the tie-breaker, fine saves from Bhopal team goalkeeper Aman Khan saw the hosts winning the finals by a margin of 5-3. Coach Y S Chauhan’s confidence building tactics paid off with Bhopal lifting the title.
Arjun award recipient and chief guest of the prize distribution, A V Subaiya distributed prizes to both the teams. National Coach M K Kaushik, SAI Regional Director in-charge A K Sharma and others were present on the occasion.
