Manoj Yadav, a JD-U legislator of Banka district, around 150 km from state capital Patna, lodged a first information report (FIR) on Sunday saying that an unidentified man sent him an SMS demanding Rs 1 crore.

"I received an SMS in Hindi late on Saturday in which the sender demanded Rs1 crore as extortion," Yadav said.

The text message also said: "You will be killed if you fail to pay the money."

In Bihar, this is the first case of a legislator receiving an SMS with an illegal demand for money.

To the contrary, in the past several legislators, particularly criminals-turned-politicians, have been charged with extorting money from businessman, professionals and others.
