Bikers drag woman, rob her on Gurgaon expressway
Three motorcycle-borne youths, their faces covered with helmets, pulled a woman down from a cycle rickshaw, dragged her on the road until she fell unconscious and sped away with her purse on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, police said.
The woman, who suffered serious head injuries, is recuperating in the ICU of a local hospital.
The victim, Reema Singh, lost cash, golden ornaments and a mobile phone, railway tickets and the faith in law and order situation of this upcoming millennium city, said her husband, Ravi Singh. She paid the price for refusing to give in against three snatchers, he added.
The incident occurred around 5.40 pm on Sunday when Reema and her sister were on their way home in Sector 31.
“As the rickshaw reached at the service lane of the expressway in front of 32nd Milestone, three motorcycle-borne youths approached the rickshaw. One of the youths tried to snatch Reema’s purse but she had a tight grip on it. The youths then sped up, which threw Reema from the rickshaw,” said Ravi Singh, her husband.
Singh is a reporter with an English newspaper. Reema fell and hit her head and started bleeding, he said.
“Finally as she fell unconscious after about five-seven minutes, the snatchers sped away with the bag. The bike was without a number plate. She was carrying Rs 25,000 in cash, golden bangles, railway tickets and a mobile in her purse,” Singh said.
“No one on that busy expressway came forward to help her,” Reema’s husband added.
Just a few yards from the incident, two policemen are usually on duty at a traffic barricade. The Civil Lines police station is also about 100 metres from the crime scene.
Police said that an FIR as been registered against the unknown miscreants.
In another similar incident, two youths on a motorcycle snatched the purse of another woman in DLF Phase I on Sunday when she was near the Sector 40 market.
Two motorcycle-borne youths also snatched a gold chain of a woman who was strolling outside her Palam Vihar house on Sunday.
