The BJP on Thursday remained firmly behind the decision of its government in Madhya Pradesh to allow its employees to take part in RSS activities even as Congress chief Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to President APJ Abdul Kalam seeking his intervention to reverse the "illegal and unconstitutional" order.

"The Madhya Pradesh government has carried out this move after a careful thought. There can be a ban on government employees from becoming members of political parties but so far as RSS is concerned, it is the world's largest socio-cultural organisation and there should be no ban on participating in its activities," BJP chief Rajnath Singh told reporters in New Delhi.

His comments came in the wake of Gandhi's petition to Kalam seeking his intervention to restore the bar state government employees from participating in Sangh activities.
