BJP leader shot dead during loot bid in Mainpuri

A BJP leader was shot dead and his father and his brother were seriously injured during a loot bid at their shop in the heart of the city at a stone?s throw from a police post near Ghantaghar crossing on Wednesday.

A BJP leader was shot dead and his father and his brother were seriously injured during a loot bid at their shop in the heart of the city at a stone’s throw from a police post near Ghantaghar crossing on Wednesday.

A robber was also shot dead during the incident which took place around 6 pm.
Three robbers were arrested with firearms when they were trying to escape in a jeep.

Tension prevailed in the area and the injured were rushed to the district hospital. Superintendent of police K Satyanarayana and city circle officer BR Singh led the police party that arrested the robbers.

Reports said robbers tried to loot Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pankaj Gupta’s shop on Raizada Road near Ghantaghar.

Pankaj’s father Gyan Prakash and brother Neeraj offered resistance, but the robbers opened fire. Pankaj died on the spot. Neeraj and Gyan Prakash suffered bullet injuries in the chest and the neck.

They were rushed to the district hospital where their condition was reported to be critical.

A robber Neeraj Yadav of Anjani village in Kotwali police circle was shot during indiscriminate firing by his associates.

Following the murder, the entire trading community downed shutters.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 5 lakh to the family.
