Yeddyurappa’s return has been on the cards since Narendra Modi was declared BJP’s PM candidate in September after the former supported his leadership. Later, he sent feelers for return to the parent party. The issue of accommodating his loyalists in the BJP stalled matters.

Even as some leaders opposed his return, he sought an entry into the NDA. But the Karnataka BJP leaders did not want him to be part of the NDA with a separate entity in the state.

But on Thursday, Karnataka BJP chief Prahlad Joshi said, “In the interest of the state party and of entire country, we have placed before the national leadership that to avoid division of anti-Congress votes, it is better that we should take back Yeddyurappa into the party.”

Joshi said, “We have requested him (Rajnath Singh) to start the process of re-inducting Yeddyurappa to avoid a division of anti-Congress votes that had helped the Congress to win the assembly polls.”
