The party is counting on the RSS machinery to ensure that the relief and cash reach the needy. In front of BJP chief Rajnath Singh -- on his first visit to the state capital of his home state since taking over the top post – the party leaders donated cash for Uttarakhand.

Soon after his arrival here on Wednesday, Singh had ‘flagged’ off truckloads of relief material for the hill state. His entry into Lucknow was also kept a low-key affair due to mourning in the neighbouring state. On Thursday, BJP’s deputy leader of the legislative party Satish Mahana handed over a cheque of over Rs 4 lakh comprising donations from all 47 party MLAs in UP. Senior BJP leader Om Prakash Singh’s son Anurag Singh donated a cheque of Rs 2 lakh. The BJP chief also donated Rs 5 lakh to the son of Ram Babu Gupta, the Hindu Yuva Vahini leader who was killed in Tanda, Ambedkarnagar.
