The LTTE's belligerence against the Sri Lankan armed forces continued on Monday with a claymore mine attack in Trincomalee town in which a navy sailor and four civilians were killed.

The blast took place near a Vidyalayam (school). Casualties would have been much more if Monday had been a working day.

Following an LTTE gun boat attack on the coastal village of Kokilai in the general area Pulmoddai in Trincomalee district on Sunday, about 500 Sinhalas had fled to safer places, local sources said.

The police on Monday appealed to the refugees to get back and promised to help organise village self-defence for the future.
