Bhuwal Singh, brother of gangster Munna Bajrangi, was arrested by Jaunpur police on Tuesday evening at Babatpur airport in Varanasi when he was about to board a Mumbai-bound flight along with his wife Niketa, who is the head of Rampur block, Superintendent of Police Atul Saxena said.

Bhuwal was absconding since September 11 when police had registered a case against him and two others under sections 409, 419, 420 and 506 of the IPC for illegally withdrawing money from NREGS accounts of labourers in the Kashi-Gomti Sanyukt Gramin Bank branch in Rampur.

Gram Panchayat officer Lal Sahab Singh and one Nikke Singh are also accused in the case, he said.

Bhuwal's elder brother Bajrangi is also wanted by police in Uttar Pradesh and other states in connection with over two dozen criminal cases including the killing of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai in Ghazipur district in 2005. UP police and the CBI has announced a bounty of Rs 12 lakh on Bajrangi, the SP said.
