THE BHOPAL Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities are likely to use the water supply network of BHEL to provide drinking water in four colonies on Raisen Road during the coming summer season. This would enable the BMC administration to supply additional water of two million gallons per day (mgd) in these areas. However, the final decision in this regard would be taken after the technical examination.

This was decided today at a meeting convened by the Minister for Commerce and Industries Babulal Gaur. The Executive Director, BHEL, PT Deo and BMC Commissioner Manish Singh were also present.
At present, the BMC carry out the water supply in four colonies – Indrapuri, Sonagiri, Kalpana Nagar and Ratnagiri – through 10 tube-wells and Kolar supply system. During the summer, most of these tube-wells dry up resulting in severe water crisis in these localities.
The BMC authorities had been trying to persuade the BHEL authorities in this connection since a long period. The BHEL is already having a setup to carry out the water supply of 12 mgd. However, the BHEL require only about six mgd of water for its requirement. So the BHEL has not been using its filtration plant at Arera Hills to its full capacity.
It was proposed that the BMC would provide additional water of two mgd to the BHEL. Besides, the BMC would also connect the water supply network of these four colonies to the BHEL’s network. Through this system, the BMC would supply from March 15 to July 15. In return, the BMC would pay for using the BHEL’s filtration plant for the purification process.
The BHEL is also having its pump house at Vardhaman Park on Upper Lake. Senior officials of BMC were also present on the occasion.
