Bomb squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service on Friday at the Kozhikode railway station.

Bomb squad and sniffer dogs were pressed into service on Friday at the Kozhikode railway station following an anonymous letter threatening that bombs had been planted at ten important stations in the southern region.

However, after thorough combing operations it was found to be a hoax, Railway Protection Force sources said.

The letter in Tamil and delivered at the Security office of the Southern Railways at Chennai, was purportedly written by a Tiruchirappalli based extremist organisation, the sources said.

Train movement, however, was not hit by the search operations, the sources added.
