Police said they received a call at 9:15 am saying there was a bomb in the premises of the school, situated in Chanakyapuri where many foreign missions are located. The police and bomb disposal squad reached the school soon after and evacuated the staff and students.

The premises were searched for over two hours before the police described the call as a hoax.

According to police, around 1,500 students, teachers and other staff members were present in the school when the search began.

"This is the first time that a hoax bomb threat call was made at a school premises. We have been receiving hoax calls of bombs in hotels, cinema halls and other public places for the past few weeks," said a police official.

Police said that they were trying to trace the person who made the fraud call.
