SENSATION PREVAILED at Mughalsarai railway junction on Friday following the recovery of a carton on a railway track, consisting of 30 small batteries connected with each other with two wires.
The bomb disposal squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed the spot and checked it. The squad found that batteries were discharged and completely ineffective. Thinking it to be a bomb, passengers started moving to safer places and panic was created at the railway station.
SP Chandauli Praveen Kumar said following information of some suspicious object lying on the railway track, the bomb disposal squad was promptly sent to the site but during checking it was found that it was not a bomb but an ineffective electrical object fitted with 20 to 30 batteries to generate light or to run a fan.
Deputy Safety Commissioner of Railways, K Aruli Jyoti, denied the recovery of any bomb from the premises of station and termed it as an ineffective electrical object. It is speculated that following the massive checking of passengers and their luggage in trains at the station, any one transporting it, got afraid of checking and threw it on the track.
According to information, the Brahmapurtra Express on way from New Delhi to Guwahati had reached platform No 1 at 9.30 am on Friday. As the train left, people at the platform found something lying on the railway track. Soon, police came there and started checking the suspected object.
Divisional Safety Commissioner of RPF and SP Chandauli rushed the spot and evicted the area for checking of suspected bomb by the squad. But, the officials heaved a sigh of relief when no bomb was found.
