A TEENAGED boy died while the condition of two others remains critical after consumption of spurious liquor on the eve of Holi in Kamla Nagar area.
Police were trying to ascertain if the country-made liquor had been poisoned afterwards. No one has been arrested though the police have detained a person on suspicion of foul play.
Police said the incident occurred on the eve of Holi when the three boys in Durga Nagar consumed liquor in the night. No sooner did they consume the liquor than their condition started deteriorating. As they fell unconscious, the family members rushed them to the hospital.
Dharmendra, 15, resident of Durga Nagar, died in the hospital, while the condition of two others Akhash, 14, and Manoj, 21, is reported to be critical. Soon after the boys fell sick, the local residents cornered one Onkar, as they suspected his role in the entire episode.
The preliminary post-mortem report has pointed towards poisoning. But the police were awaiting the viscera report to ascertain if the liquor had been indeed poisoned.
The boys had consumed liquor in two shifts. In the first round the liquor put aside by the elders was consumed and later it was liquor bought by them from a shop.
CSP Dharmvir Singh Yadav said that police were waiting for the report of the blood samples and viscera to ascertain if the liquor was spurious or if it had been poisoned afterward. If the reports establish poisoning then a case of murder would be registered, he said.
There were conflicting reports about the source of liquor. As per the version of some youths, the liquor was bought from a shop in Panchsheel Nagar, while according to another version it had been purchased from an outlet in MP Nagar. Investigations were in progress.
