Abhishek Dhama, a student of class 12 at Rotary Public School and his friend Amarjeet Singh, 15, were rushed to a hospital after being taken out of Basai water treatment plant.

Abhishek was declared brought dead while Amarjeet is undergoing treatment at Columbia Asia Hospital, Palam Vihar, the police said.

The incident took place when the two friends jumped into the water body to take bath. When they started flailing in water and shouted for help, their two other companions — Amit and Hemant — sought help from villagers who managed to pull them out. They rushed the boys to the hospital where doctors managed to save Amarjeet.

Safety experts have advised parents against letting their children go out to swim at unsafe areas. With the temperatures soaring, children may want to take a quick swim in lakes or ponds without bothering about safety.
