A SUB-INSPECTOR’S apathy resulted in the killing of a seven-year-old boy in Itaunja on Sunday.

The boy Rajkumar, missing since March 2, was strangulated to death. The body was found after the sub-inspector repeatedly refused to entertain the complaint of the boy’s father.Munnalal Rawat of Shivrajpur village went to Mahigawan outpost of the local police station on March 3 and said his son was missing. Outpost incharge SP Dubey made light of the matter and said the boy might have run away. Dubey asked him to go and search for the boy. He also said if he waited for some days, the boy would return home on his own.

Munnalal then went to the local police station where an FIR was lodged on March 4.

The complainant again went to Dubey and intimated him that his son was last seen with Badri, Balku and Punia of the Puhukpur village nearby that day. He further expressed the apprehension that the trio could eliminate his son.
At this, Dubey hurled expletives at Munnalal and asked him to leave the outpost. He also told him not to come there again.

However, on Sunday, villagers saw the boy’s body in a field outside the village and informed Munnalal, who, in turn, intimated the police. Though the police had registered a case of murder they had failed to trace the accused.
