BPO company EXL steps up expansion, hiring plans

Business process outsourcing (BPO) firm EXL Service, founded with a base in Noida but based in the US and listed on the Nasdaq, is fast expanding its footprint in India, and plans to hire about 6,000 people in the country by December. Vivek Sinha reports.

Business process outsourcing (BPO) firm EXL Service, founded with a base in Noida but based in the US and listed on the Nasdaq, is fast expanding its footprint in India, and plans to hire about 6,000 people in the country by December. That would mean a 35% surge in overall headcount.

The company, founded by former Bank of America veterans, is evaluating its options at Hyderabad and couple of other cities in the country to set up new centres for outsourced services. It currently operates at five major cities of India.

India is a major centre for the company as 15,000 of its total 17,000 staff operates from here.

The company is keen to enhance its capabilities in analytics, risk management and operational re-engineering and would hire professionals such as chartered accountants (CAs), MBAs and engineers.

"Of the total intake planned, around 500 would be CAs, MBAs and engineers," said Rohit Kapoor, president and chief executive officer of EXL. The company is also building upon its LPO (legal process outsourcing) business and would hire around 100 legal professionals over the next six months.
