British Prime Minister Tony Blair is likely to visit New Zealand in March, Prime Minister Helen Clark said Tuesday.

"Tony Blair very much wants to come to New Zealand and there are plans being made," Clark told reporters.
"There isn't a formal date to announce, but he would like to come around the time he plans to go to Australia for the Commonwealth Games."
The Commonwealth Games are being held in Melbourne from March 15 to 26.
Visits by a serving British prime minister to New Zealand are rare, despite the traditionally close links between Britain and its former colony.
John Major was the last to visit in 1995, attending a Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting.
Clark said the visit by Blair was still to be confirmed.
