A senior official of the BSF's Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Nagaland frontiers, headquartered said that the alert was sounded on Saturday evening immediately after the Tripura incident was reported.

No incident has, however, been reported so far in the Assam and Meghalaya sectors. The BSF guards the 557-kilometre Indo-Bangla border in the two states, he said.

An assistant commandant of BSF was killed and three others - two BSF jawans and a civilian - were critically injured when BDR personnel fired at the Indian village of Lankamura in West Tripura district.
