BSNL official arrested in J&K for accepting bribe

The state vigilance organisation of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested a sub-divisional engineer of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd for accepting a bribe for providing a telephone connection in a village in Kupwara district.

BSNL officer Ramesh Lal was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 on Saturday for providing a telephone connection to one Abdul Gaffar Beigh of village Warsun-Kralpora who had applied for the facility in the year 2001, an official spokesman said on Sunday.

An FIR has been registered in police station vigilance organisation Kashmir against the accused and investigation has been taken up.

The accused has been taken into custody for questioning, the spokesman said.
